The Obsession

For some sailing becomes their life. That is an all right thing but bear in mind if you marry a sailor there is no telling where you could wind up on a given weekend. Hard core sailors are ready to sail at the drop of a hat or the slightest change in the wind.

With some it is the size of the boat. They will constantly be trading up to a newer model. The trouble with being obsessed with the size of your boat is there is always a larger one. When you are safely docked at the marina thinking you have the largest boat you may suddenly find yourself in the shadow of the next boat that pulls in.

With others it is the type. They have to have to have one of each. While they are waiting on their family to get loaded and settled, on their blue water cruiser, they are sailing around the marina in their little dinghy.
If the wind really picks up they will head out to sea on their catamaran with reckless abandonment and total disregard to time or weather.

Be prepared for money being no object when it comes to obtaining the desired vessel. It is very important they have a variety of sailing craft so that all of the joys of the sport can be experienced.

When you think about it this is not really a bad obsession to have. Sailing brings a family together and teaches a lot of valuable skills that can be used on and off the water. Patience definitely being one of them.

Many wonderful days can be spent at the dock watching your little ones learning to sail.
